Round 2 Recap

VCJGA FINAL RESULTS:  BOYS 12-14 PLAYER'S CHAMPIONSHIP at Sterling Hills Golf Club, Camarillo, CA

Joseph Ahn and Walker Huddy began the day tied for the lead under cloudy and cool conditions coupled with some light rain and cooler tempuratures and breezes on the back nine.  Stephan Moffatt got off to a fast start with birdies on the first and third holes while Huddy and Johnny Ruiz got off to a slow start.  Ahn made three steady pars; then birdied the dangerous par-5 fourth.   

Going into the back nine, Ruiz made a birdie two on the par-4 tenth!  This is as close as he got as Ahn now had a three stroke lead through ten holes at +6.  The battle was now for second with Ruiz and Huddy at +9 and Moffatt at +11. On the 16th hole, Ruiz made a birdie and Moffatt made an eagle three on the par-5!  Ruiz and Huddy struggled at the finish and Moffatt birdied the final hole.  Ahn took control over the final stretch by making birdies on the 14th and 16th holes. 

In the end, Ahn played the most steady over the two days and won the championship by three over Moffatt by avoiding the big mistakes.  A stroke back in third was Ruiz and finishing fourth was Huddy.  Getting off to a very fast start in the final round was Brian Cook, making an eagle two on the par-4 first!  Adding birdies on the fourth, 13, 15 and 16 tied him for low round of the tournament and in a tie for fifth with Drew Miller.  Miller, also shooting a 73 had the most steady round of the tournament with two birdies and only three bogies on the day.  Rounding out the top-10 was Anthony Wagner (7th), rookie, Joel Manduke (8th), and tied for 9th was Brian Wipf and Matthew Van Zandt.
