FINAL RESULTS of the VCJGA Player’s Championship presented by TaylorMade:
After some light overnight rain, the fairways became soft, making the course play much longer than usual. The cold, windy conditions made the greens firm and fast. This combination made scoring conditions extremely difficult at best.
With the scoring average so high, low rounds would really be rewarded.  The plan many players discussed as they studied the scoreboard this morning was to have a solid round and pass as many players as possible. Starting the day in 19th place was Jordan Cuthbert. His round was highlighted by an eagle on the final hole. His 75 was low round of the tournament and moved him into a tie for fourth place (his worst finish with the VCJGA all year)! Tied for 16th place and jumping into a tie for the lead through eight holes was Jacob Gralitzer. He started out on fire with birdies on 1, 4, 5 & 7 going out in 33! Unfortunately, he could not sustain his momentum and finished tied for fourth, shooting a very solid 76. JJ Holen began the day in a tie for sixth and was tied for the lead through six holes. The eighth hole derailed his round and he placed alone in third shooting a second consecutive 78. JJ had a “déjà vu” experience as he finished in third last month on the same course in the SCPGA Toyota Cup!
Jason Peters and Jeff McNeil had a battle that lasted all day. After a poor start by Jason, Jeff took the lead and maintained at least a share of it through eight holes. On the tenth hole he took sole posseession of lead and held it through 16 holes. On the par-3 17th, Jason made a key birdie to finally regain a share of the lead that he and Jeff shared as the day began.  Both players pared the final hole of regulation play and finished with solid 78’s playing in the worst of the 25 mile per hour gusts. They were quickly escorted back out onto the course by the AJGA West Regional Director, Larry Berroya, who served as our lead rules official. The first playoff hole was the par-5 18th were they matched scores again. They headed over the par-4 10th as it was getting darker and much colder. In front of a small gallery, Jason holed the winning putt and earned some hardware and a valuable AJGA Exemption!
Many thanks to our VOLUNTEER FORCE that made the event run smoothly and supported the players by helping as starter, rules officials, pace of play monitors, shuttle drivers and spotters: Brett Silvernail, Darrayle Prosser, Dana Miller, Cyndi Shaw, Francis Lim, Debby Guthrie, Dan Ma, Paul Drogosch, Martha & Butch Stanfield, Zach Kanny, Jill Sanders, Nancy Wipf, Mark Purcell (SCGA) and Larry Berroya (AJGA). Many of these individuals worked both days!  We appreciate your generous time, energy and support!  We couldn't do it without you.
Thanks to Cypress Ridge Golf Club PGA Professional, Rick Ventura and GCSAA Superintendant, Mike Scott and their staff for a great weekend on a great course! You guys only need to work on the weather conditions!!!
A big THANK YOU to the VCJGA board members that put in so much time and effort as volunteers throughout the year: Richard Gralitzer, Kyle Kanny and Bob Sanders!
