VCJGA - THE FALL CLASSIC FINAL RESULTS Elkins Ranch Golf Course, Fillmore, CA - Boys: Par 36-35-71; Girls: 36-36-72 The temperatures were pushing 100 degrees on Saturday and in the high 80's on Sunday following the Guiberson fire earlier in the week. The air quality was very good and the players were treated to some great food each day. Many thanks to PGA members Dan Hodapp, Chris Harvey and their staff. The course played very difficult due to wet, slow conditions. Championship Boys: RUIZ EARNS FOURTH VICTORY Johnny Ruiz of Camarillo has had a great year. He has won four times this year with two TaylorMade Cup Championships, the Match Play Championship, and this weekends Fall Classic at Elkins Ranch by shooting rounds of 73-71. His rounds included five birdies and 24 pars. Johnny's fine play has also earned him two AJGA Exemptions. Tied for second were Giovanni Washington of West Hills and Nick Gajefski of Ventura finished four strokes back. Gajefski was the first round leader after shooting a 72 and Washington had the low round of the tournament, shooting a 68 that included five birdies. Tied for fourth were Benjamin Molnar of Calabasas and Brett Silvernail of Ventura. Silvernail was tied for second after the first round and Molnar, playing in his first Championship Boys division event shot a an even par round of 71. Championship Girls: CHEN MAKES IT THREE Sophia Chen of Newbury Park has played in only five VCJGA tournaments this year, but she has managed to win three times. Her opening round of 77 was the low round of the tournament and her 157 total was good enough to win by five strokes. Sophia only made two birdies in the tournament, but she kept out of trouble by making 19 steady pars. Tiffany Yau of Porter Ranch finish in second after opening the final round with a birdie and shooting a solid 79. In third place was Emily Wisma of Ventura, shooting the low final round score of 78. Emily has one victory and two third place finishes this year. Boys 12-15: MOETMANN CATCHES FIRE Steven Moentmann of Stevenson Ranch got off to a fast start in the first round; and then the wheels came off. With his opening round of 80 in the past, Moentmann opened with birdie on the first hole again; and then made seven straight pars. Coming in he made three more birdies to shoot a two-under 69 and win by a four strokes. 2009 points leader, Stephan Moffatt of Simi Valley finished in second place shooting steady rounds of 77-76. In third place was Victor Ponte of Camarillo with rounds of 79-75. Ponte has a second and two third place finishes this year. Other top finishers were: fourth place - Spencer Soosman; fifth place - Jack Biwer; tied for sixth - Sean Crocker, Willy Moffly and Anthony Wagner; ninth place - Bradley Shiney; and rounding out the top-10 was Brett Hagy.
