VCJGA - ANDRIA'S SEAFOOD CLASSIC FINAL ROUND Buenaventura Golf Course, Ventura, CA - Par 70 The day began with heavy rain and 40 MPH winds that knocked over a couple trees and broke many large tree limbs throughout the course. The temperature was in the mid 50's. Although the conditions were extremely difficult, the golfers should be proud of how they handled this adverse situation. Thanks to the staff of Buenaventura for their kind hospitality. A special THANK YOU to Andria's Seafood owner and VCJGA supporter, Michael Wagner. Championship Boys: HOLEN FINISHES ON TOP! Last years POY runner-up, JJ Holen (2011) posted 146 (71+75) and earned a tough victory in extremely difficult playing conditions. He only made one birdie on the day but kept his bad holes to a minimum. Finishing in second was Clayton Thatch (2010) finishing with a 148 (68+80). He made a couple of late birdies to keep it close, but it was not enough. Taking in third was Nick Gajefski with 150 (74+76) finishing strong with two birdies on two of the last three holes. Fourth place was Benjamin Shur (2010) with a 151 (73+78). Others include: 153 - Jacob Gralitzer (2010) of Agoura Hills, 154 - Ryan Prosser (2010) of Newbury Park. Note: When writing this recap, I received a call from Dirk Gutherie who finished tied for second. He disqualified himself for signing for a lower score than he actually made on the 15th hole. He only realized this when he returned home and was going over his round. This kind of integrity is what the our game so great. Championship Girls: CHEN EARNS VICTORY! Sophia Chen of Newbury Park (2013) earned the gold medal today with a two-day total of 164 (78+86) with Remy Molyneux (2010) of Westlake Village breathing down her back and finishing with a total of 165 (79+86). Though both players had their struggles, they were tied for the lead through 13 holes. The 14th hole was the difference as Remy's birdie on the final hole was not enough to force extra holes. With her highest finish to date, third place went to Oxnard's Katie Rice (2012). Boys 12-15: ANDL DEFEATS ANGARD IN PLAYOFF! Jake Andl, Westlake Village (2015) had some time to think about his tournament as he managed to put together two steady rounds of 78, posting a two-day total of 156. As the first round leaders began to post their scores, he may have wondered how things could have been different after a tough finishing hole. As the first round leaders started to finish their rounds, he new he had new life. First round leader Alex Angard (2013) of Encino, Gregory Robarge II (2013) of Ventura and Stephan Moffatt (2013) of Simi Valley all had their chances towards the end, but also posted a 156 total and headed back to the first tee for a playoff. On the first hole, Alex and Jake were the only two to par and continued to the 2nd hole where Jake Andl prevailed. Angard, Robarge and Moffatt had to settle for a 2nd place tie. Others include: 157 - Drew Miller (2012) of Westlake Village, 159 - Peter Griffith (2015) of Westlake Village, 160 - Andrew Paisley (2013) of Kamuela, HI.; Sean Searls (2012) of Ventura.
