VCJGA - TaylorMade Cup at Robinson Ranch FINAL ROUND RESULTS Robinson Ranch Golf Club, Santa Clarita, CA - Par 36+36=72 Temperatures were a high 96 with cool winds and gusts. Special thanks to TaylorMade and Robinson Ranch PGA Professional Larry Atlas; Tony Koo and their staff for their kind hospitality. Championship Boys: HOMA MAX'S OUT! Max Homa of Valencia (2009) is winding down his junior golf experience over the next two weeks and wanted to go out with a bang. Playing the final three holes at +3 he still managed to secure a one-stroke lead over JJ Holen of Castaic (2011) and Nick Gajefski of Ventura (2010). Two-stokes over Jeff McNeil of Nipomo (2011); Matt McAustin of Arroyo Grande (2010) and Ryan Hendler of Agoura Hills (2010). Things started fast for Holen who made five birdies on the front-nine and made the turn with a one-stroke lead at three-under for the tournament while Homa played a bogey free front-nine and turned at two-under. Things began to change over the final holes as Homa, who just graduated from Valencia HS was at three-under and Holen, who will be a junior at West Ranch HS was even through 15 holes. Homa lost his lead going into the final hole with his cross-town-rival. Making pars on the final hole after each just missed their birdie opportunities and finish tied at 145. Back to the first hole for a sudden-victory playoff. Holen played first and hit into the right fairway bunker and drew a good lie as Homa was in the center of the fairway. Holen then hit a sandwedge into the back greenside bunker while Homa played an excellent wedge off the slope to about four feet. Holen had no shot - burried, down hill lie with no chance... Holen played one of the most incredible shots ever to two feet and forced Homa to make the birdie to win. Homa made a perfect stroke and a fist-pump when it dropped for victory! Homa will attend UC Berkely in the fall. Jeff McNeil finished in third after making two key birdies on the last two holes and finished at 148. Tied for fourth was Mo Bardovi of Monte Nido (2011) and Jin Park of Burbank (2010) who each shot a solid 73 to finish at 150 over the difficult course. Tied for sixth at 152 were Spencer Mikles of Santa Barbara (2012) who just competed in the California Amatuer; Jacob Gralitzer of Agoura Hills (2010); Zach Winchester of Encino (2011); and Clayton Thatch of Valencia (2010). Rounding out the top-10 were Johnny Ruiz of Camarillo (2011); David Dworsky of Los Angeles (2011); and Nick Gajefski of Ventura (2010). Championship Girls: CHUN WINS! Michele Chun of Chino Hills (2011) began the day with an eight-stroke lead over Lauren Draganza of Costa Mesa (2010) and by nine over Marion Smit of Santa Maria (2012). The front-nine was the difference for Lauren and the back-nine proved most difficult for Mareon as Michele's balanced play each day earned her the title in the inagural TaylorMade Cup.
